There are events that have extreme impact on the resilience of communities. Such events, can be caused naturally or be imposed by people either intentionally or unintentionally. A country’s ability to plan and act before, during and immediately after such an event occurs, is of outmost importance. Planned actions which are aimed at minimizing the impact through effective, efficient and timely actions. An introduction to the understanding of the tasks taken towards managing disasters within a framework of an environment which offers the infrastructure needed. A candidate develops skills such as understanding the fundamentals surrounding disasters, the importance of the approach of the different actors in play, resilience and preparedness against present and future threats, how time is sensitive and disruptiv, be able to critically review a situation, appraise the impact and implement or adjust the systematic planning
